Excessive Underarm Sweating Management Tips and Methods

Excessive underarm sweating is a very common problem that many people suffer from. The condition generally begins to show around adolescence and continues throughout the rest of one’s life. People suffering from this condition generally sweat excessively in their armpits. Thus, constantly sweaty and wet armpits along with the odour, make sufferers avoid social gatherings and keep more to themselves.

However, despite the large number of people suffering from excessive underarm sweating, very few take steps to cure themselves of it. Thus, many people live with this problem because they do not wish to talk about it for fear of the social stigma that might be involved, and so they live with it all their lives.

Generally, people do not talk much about excessive underarm sweating even to their relatives and close friends because it is a common misconception that the condition arises due to bad hygiene. And so people suffering from this condition do not mention it to others, and thus move further away from curing it.

Such people would also generally have tried everything in the market in order to stop it, from the simplest of deodorants to the more intense antiperspirants at a pharmacy. These products, however, generally would not provide any real results.

How to Stop Underarm Sweat

Excessive underarm sweating could arise due to excessive physical activity, changes in hormonal levels, a decline of the sex hormones, infections or stress. However, this condition is by no means incurable, and there are some simple steps that you can take to understand and cure oneself of it.

Using Antiperspirants

The usage of antiperspirants regularly after bathing would prevent excessive underarm sweating. This, however, must be made a habit and followed regularly. An important thing to remember here is that it is possible for some people to be allergic to such antiperspirants. Thus it is essential that one check to see if they are, because this could cause skin rashes and allergies.

Using Talcum Powder or Deodorants

As with antiperspirants, talcum powder and deodorants should also be used after each bath. Talcum powder is useful as it battles the offensive odour that sweat causes by controlling the sweat glands. Deodorants on the other hand, do not do much to stop sweating, but can at least mask the odour.

How to Stop Underarm Sweat Using Appropriate Clothes

One’s clothing is also an important factor in controlling excessive armpit sweating. Sufferers of this condition are advised to avoid tight-fitting and dark coloured clothes. Such clothes only aggravate the problem and cause it to be more visible. Comfortable, loose clothing that allow air circulation are suggested. Cotton is also favoured during hot and sunny weather.

Keep Your Armpits Clean

Another important tip is to always keep the armpits clean. This would help prevent excessive underarm sweating. It might be helpful to completely shave the armpits while taking a bath to discourage the growth of bacteria in this region. Antiperspirants, talcum powder and deodorants, as mentioned earlier, could also be used to do this.

Conclusion

Other than the tips given above, drinking a lot of water also helps control excessive underarm sweating. Stress has also been found to aggravate the problem and thus checking one’s stress levels is also important. Using the above methods, a person could very easily battle excessive underarm sweat.
